YouTubers Diamond White and Christian Collins (who both also have quite the Vine presence) have joined forces with Macy’s and Futures Without Violence as part of the yearly RESPECT! Campaign held to draw attention to domestic abuse and promote respect in all relationships.
The campaign is founded on the idea that highlighting role models who teach the people in their lives how to respect others will help encourage those values and re-shape the world into a place free of domestic violence.
Amidst an impressive duet of Aretha Franklin’s “Respect,” this year’s challenge video features Diamond and Christian discussing how their parents raised them to respect others and themselves. The video ends with a challenge for anyone interested to upload an essay or video about the person they would like to thank for teaching them respect, in exchange for a chance to win one of several prizes including a trip to New York City and a $10,000 donation to a nonprofit or school of their choice.
Macy’s is also offering a RESPECT! bracelet for purchase (online and in-store), with half of the proceeds going to the Family Violence Prevention Fund.
Domestic and sexual violence is an issue that hits close to home for a lot of people, but has also been an important topic of discussion in the YouTube community this year. Respect (along with conversation) is easily the first step in changing the things that have been going on and moving towards a safer community for everyone.
Hey, why not share this with your friends and encourage them to participate?
