Get Infected With Animal Planet’s Zombie Cam

Zombies are all the rage these days and the fever for the undead is obviously peaking in the days leading up to Halloween. Not to be left out of the fun, Animal Planet has gone ahead and captured one member of the shambling horde of flesh eaters for our amusement. The wildlife focused network is offering a 24/7 zombie cam featuring a “captured” zombie held prisoner in what one hopes is a very secure conference room at the network’s headquarters.

Fans are invited to observe the behavior of the zombie in captivity. Thus far that behavior seems to consist mostly of wailing, growling, and posing for selfies. This isn’t Animal Planet’s first foray into seasonal live stream events. The network’s annual Puppy Bowl, featuring cameras trained on a tiny arena full of shelter puppies, began as in-jokey counterprogramming opposite the Super Bowl. Now in its 8th season, the Puppy Bowl draws significant viewership. In 2012 it was the second most watched program in America after the big game itself.

It remains to be seen if this year’s zombie live stream will take on such a life, or unlife, of its own. The zombie cam is set to run through Halloween, at which point that zombie will presumably be handed over to the CDC or humanely released into the wild. Until then, fans and undead enthusiasts can check out the zombie cam at animalplanet.com/zombie and comment on social media using the hashtag #ZombieCam. We can’t guarantee that the zombie will read your tweets but given her skill at selfie-taking we can’t rule it out either.
