If you’re not in the Halloween spirit yet, then Hulu has the cure. The streaming service is heading down to the crypt to wake up Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. In addition to being the originator of the now ubiquitous “sexy vampire” look, Elvira was the Ebert and Roper of B-Grade horror films. Her vampy and campy intros to some of the most cringe-inducing horror flicks of the day made her show, “Movie Macabre,” a cult 80’s classic. Now Hulu is reviving the franchise with a 13 episode limited series just in time for Halloween.
The new show “13 Nights of Elvira” will feature actress Cassandra Peterson who will once again pour herself into Elvira’s cleavage-baring costume and reprise her classic role. Expect an updated version of the classic format with Elvira providing a pun-heavy intro to some classic and classically terrible horror movies. Her intros always walk the fine line between praising and shaming with a healthy dose of self-deprecation and blatant fan-service in between.
Elvira herself is worth the price of admission, but Hulu has also done a great job of digging through the movie vaults for some truly epic horror film horrors. Elvira will provide her unique take on Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle of Death, Puppet Master, Demonic Toys, Hobgoblins, The Gingerdead Man, Dollman, Trancers, Oblivion, Shrunken Heads, Hideous, Evil Bong, Seed People, and Night of the Living Dead. The fun starts October 19th, but to get things rolling we picked a few favorites from Elvira’s own YouTube channel.
