MTV is diving deeper into the YouTube game and we’ve got to give them high marks for taste. The network formerly known as Music Television is launching its first original YouTube channel to be fronted by none other than Laci Green. Laci is already YouTube’s sex positive sex ed teacher extraordinaire, having built an audience of more than 1.1 million subscribers on her personal channel. Now she will bring her fearless perspective to a range of other topics as the host of MTV’s new channel Braless.
A new trailer that dropped late last night gives us a sneak peak of what to expect from the new channel. In true Laci Green form the trailer gives feminism top billing which is, to be honest, totally rad. The channel name, Braless, is a nod to the bra burning and boundary breaking feminist movement of the seventies, but the new channel is no history lesson. Instead Laci will tackle the burning pop culture and media issues of the day through her own sex positive feminist lens. We’re pretty psyched to see how it goes.
MTV has been working hard to get its footing in the YouTube ecosystem. The network has tapped YouTube stars like Lohanthony to cohost the aftershow for hit drama Teen Wolf and they’ve brought in talented creators like Morgan Evans and Akilah Hughes to create original content for their main channel. Tapping Laci Green, one of YouTube’s smartest and most consistently entertaining creators, to host their first original channel is a big, bold move and we can’t wait to see it pay off.
