Apparently, the only one left for Reddit to beat is itself. Flinging open their sack this year, once again, Reddit looks to break its own Guinness Book of World Records listing. Last year, the social media hub connected 89,421 strangers, doubling their 2012 reach and securing their record for the third time. At this point, I don’t know that anyone is even trying to break their record — most of us have our own shit going on.
But there is potentially a good reason to get involved. In addition to the really badass stuff that other users will sometimes create with their impressive talents and skills, you might just get an awesome Secret Santa — like Bill Gates or Arnold Schwarzenegger, both of whom participated last year.
The mark set for this year is 200,000 exchanges, and in the time I’ve spent writing/researching this sentence, they’ve gone from 9 to 11 percent of their goal achieved — and the damn thing just opened four hours ago. So it’s safe to say they’re going to blow their projected goal out of the damn sky.
