The stars of YouTube are crushing it at the book box office. Zoe “Zoella” Sugg’s book, Girl Online, is expected to hit number one on the UK bestseller list after an impressively strong showing of pre-orders for the book on Amazon. It’s already reached the number three spot for the online bookseller and the book was only released in the UK today. A spokesperson for Penguin Random House, at the book’s launch party last night, said “We’re expecting number one this week”.
Girl Online, which is a thinly-veiled fiction about a teen girl in the UK who vlogs about her hopes, problems and crushes in an online platform. Zoella’s actual YouTube channel presence is as a beauty/fashion vlogger — it will be interesting to see how much of that crosses over into her fiction. She’s actually dating Alfie Deyes, so this is one of those smart literary couples like Ernest Hemingway and Martha Gelhorn.
The book will be available internationally (which means in the U.S.) soon.
