Like the lighting of the tree in Rockefeller Center, the YouTube Rewind video has become an annual tradition. A celebs-and-magic-filled ode to the year that was, YouTube Rewind is a video compendium of all the major happenings that took place in YouTubeland over the past 12 months.

2014, as it turns out, wasn’t the most eventful year. Of course that’s no fault of the YouTube Rewind filmmaker Kai Hasson from Portal A, who turned in a frenetic and colorful tribute to the year that was, with over 100 creators involved. Unfortunately, a dog in a spider costume was evidently one of our biggest happenings (although that dog was pretty awesome!).

Most identifiable of course are the Ice Bucket Challenge, which gets plenty of love, as well as FreddieW on Conan and Bethany Mota’s “Dancing With the Stars” appearance. It was a very international year on YouTube, complete with a nod to the opening of YouTube Space Tokyo. Of course there are over 5000 other pop culture references in there as well — see if you can spot them all!*

*There probably aren’t over 5000 pop culture references in this thing — don’t bother counting, just enjoy the damn video and then share it with others.
