Another year nearly in the books, another successful charity event by Whats Trending. Yup, it’s that time of year when the YouTube stars align to raise cash for Covenant House, a charity focused on eradicating youth homelessness.
Taking place on Dec. 11, the 3rd annual Tubeathon event, co-sponsored by Whats Trending and Ford Focus pledged $1 for every tweet or social media post bearing the hashtags #Tubeathon or #GoFurther.
“The What’s Trending 3rd Annual Tubeathon was a great opportunity for the next generation of stars to reach their community and shed light on The Covenant House’s important mission to end youth homelessness in America. These influencers proved the power of using digital tools to connect with their audience in real-time to make a larger difference for those in need,” said Shira Lazar, Founder of What’s Trending.
What’s interesting is that the Tubeathon, which involved several major YouTubers/Viners like Destorm, King Bach and Jessi Smiles as well as a few mainstream celebs including Drea De Mateo, doesn’t mention how much money they raised overall for charity, only the amount that their gaming collaboration produced:
“What’s Trending also partnered with Tiltify and Twitch to raise money through a gaming stream that helped the event gross 53,364 Tweets up from the 41,777 last year (an increase of 27.73%), with a global impressions reaching 197,521,960, surpassing last year’s total of 167,000,000 impressions by 18.28%.”
It could be that they’re saving the magic number for the edited TV broadcast of the Tubeathon, a one-hour special, which will take place Dec. 21 on AXS. Here’s hoping they’ve broken their own records!
