Recasting Movies With YouTubers: Frozen

Since we’re weekend warriors now, it only makes sense that we break from the pack and engage in some rampant free-thinking. Pretty soon YouTube and Hollywood should completely merge and we will be seeing our favorite YouTubers starring in our favorite TV shows and movies. Of course, until that point, we can only speculate on what might have been had this merger happened 10, 20 or 500 years ago. So every weekend, we take a pop culture movie and recast it with YouTubers who we think might have worked perfectly in that role.

This week: Frozen

Frozen is the most beloved movie of the past five years, probably. Never have I seen kids gravitate towards it so unconditionally. Since there’s nothing I like better than spending my weekends recasting classic movies, I knew it was sooner or later that I would be recasting Frozen.

There’s a lot to like here: TWO(!) princesses, a talking oaf snowman, two hunky dudes, a rat-looking duke and a giant goofy Swedish guy who we are doubtlessly going to cast with Harley Morenstein. Definitely. For all the rest, see below to see if you agree.

Princess Elsa

Played in the movie by: Idina Menzel
Played in our version by: Megan Nicole

Beautiful and more serious than Madilyn Bailey, Megan Nicole has the dark to Madilyn Bailey’s light (not in a weird, creepy or racist way though). She could make me weep with her blistering rendition of “Let It Go.” But in like a cool, macho “guy way.”

Princess Anna

Played in the movie by: Kristen Bell
Played in our version by: Madilyn Bailey

Princess Anna is the fun one, the impetuous younger princess who gets engaged to a man she meets that day. We need someone beautiful who can sing, natch, but is also capable of being silly and fun-loving and practically perfect in everyway. The second that last bit became a part of the requirements, how could you think of anybody but Maddy Bailey?

Kristoff

Played in the movie by: Jonathan Groff
Played in our version by: Tyler Ward

Hunky, musical, and seeming to be down for a bit of adventure, Tyler Ward could step into the role of resident ice man, Kristoff, and not even blink.

Olaf

Played in the movie by: Josh Gad
Played in our version by: JacksFilms

Ah, the lovable oaf. A snowman who has come to life, Olaf dreams of lounging in the sun and doesn’t for a moment consider the consequences. Lovable, cuddly and doesn’t consider the consequences … hmm … I think that sounds just like JacksFilms.

Duke of Weselton

Played in the movie by: Alan Tudyk
Played in our version by: Shane Dawson

More obnoxious than evil, the Duke needs to be played by a YouTuber that you naturally are like, “Okay, enough, shut up already.” See, the Duke is misunderstood a little bit — he isn’t the villain — no, that’s Hans — but he frequently gets painted as a villain. So, Shane Dawson. And he’s been so good at impersonating YouTubers lately, you could easily seem him take this role on.

Oaken

Played in the movie by: Chris Williams
Played in our version by: Harley Morenstein

Harley Morenstein. “Nuff said.

Hans

Played in the movie by: Santino Fontana
Played in our version by: Joey Graceffa

A guy who starts out seeming handsome and fun-loving but ends up evil and full of malice? That doesn’t sound like anybody we know on YouTube. So we’ll just reach into our magic sorting hat and pick a name at random of someone who TOTALLY isn’t like this at all. What? Joey Graceffa? Yeah, not even a little. Nope, not evil.

Hate our choices? Think we’re way off base? Can you think of someone better? Let us know who you’d re-recast. Also share this article because hypotheticals like this are awesome.
