Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the 2015 Golden Globe awards last night for the final time and they didn’t pull any punches when talking about embattled comedian Bill Cosby. Some of the duo’s sharpest jokes landed squarely on Cosby who has been fending off allegations that he sexually assaulted dozens of women over the years. Rumors have circulated about Cosby for over a decade but it seems that the public is finally paying attention. In fact, while two different videos of Poehler and Fey’s 10 minute opening act managed to make their way onto the YouTube Daily Top 20, the official NBC version landed at number 7 while a fan uploaded copy that name-checks Cosby climbed to number one.
Getting called out by two of the biggest names in comedy in front of the whole Hollywood establishment is pretty much as real as it gets. Still, even before today Tina Fey has been gunning for Cosby and his alleged bad behavior. We mined the internets for earlier examples of Truth-Telling-Tina, so check out these three times that Tina Fey totally burned Bill Cosby.
Tina Fey has been dropping truth bombs about Cosby since her Saturday Night Live days. In this appearance on weekend update she and Amy Poehler debut an early version of the joke they would use later at the Globes. At the time Cosby was a legendary comedian and an influential figure in Hollywood. Still, Fey and Poehler don’t hold back, skewering not only Cosby, but the Hollywood players who continue to work with him in spite of the allegations.
A few years later Fey had gone from being a writer and occasional B-list cast member on SNL to the show runner and star of “30 Rock,” one of the most popular and buzzed about comedies on network television. In season three she managed to slip in another subtle Cosby burn. In the clip below Tracy Morgan’s character Tracy Jordan accuses Cosby of misconduct toward his aunt. A sly reference to Cosby’s alleged habit of taking advantages of waitresses and service workers.
Finally, last night, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reunited on the stage of the Golden Globes for their third and final turn hosting the awards. While critics and fans are still mixed on how successful the show was as a whole, one thing is clear. The only thing people are talking about today is Fey and Poehler’s ice cold Cosby burns. The pair opened with a joke about nominated film “Into The Woods” and segued flawlessly into a series of perfect slams the left the audience shocked.
The world has changed a lot in a few short years. When Fey and Poehler raised these issues on Saturday Night Live it was wildly controversial. At the time some thought they were risking their careers by challenging one of the most influential and beloved men in Hollywood. Today Fey and Poehler are arguably two of the most beloved and influential women in entertainment and Cosby has been forced to cancel all of his appearances as the public demands that he answer for his alleged crimes.
