As reporters/journalists/chroniclers of all things “new media,” NMR is often people’s source for questions, such as: “What the hell happened to the ‘diarrhea jacuzzi girl’?” Frequently, there aren’t any answers because they dropped offline and stopped making/showing up in videos.

But these people/animals/objects are an important part of the culture. And so what we want to do, as often as we can, is track them down so that you can get some closure in your life. Also because one day, it might be the answer that gets you a “pink pie” in Trivial Pursuit at some future Thanksgiving “Family Game Night” and we want to play our part in that. So join us as we hunt down some answers in our recurring weekend feature “What the Hell Happened To __________________?”

This week, we find out what the hell happened to LonelyGirl15

It was no surprise that a knockout cutie with low self esteem became a breakout star on the early YouTube boards. She was like the girl next door that every dude totally seemed to have a chance with. Then it came out it was an actress doing a bit and the novelty wore off, turning into a web show about teens being pursued by a cult. Still, Jessica Rose, the actress behind LonelyGirl15, is an indelible part of internet lore, not just on YouTube, but also on 4chan where she is something of their queen.

But what happened to the doe-eyed cutie once the salad days of LonelyGirl15 ended? It turns out she’s been up to a lot. After internet (AI), she moved onto television and movies. First up, a pitstop in the much-maligned I Know Who Killed Me starring Lindsay Lohan. From there, the titles get less memorable and lower budget, including a role on the show Greek. She worked steadily though from the LonelyGirl15 days up until her last credit, in 2014, a cameo in a show called Boozy Mom.

From there, word on the street from an inside source is that she started a dog walking business and moved to Australia to be with her boyfriend, actor Tim Phillips (Kylie Minnogue’s son on the Aussie show Neighbours). She doesn’t post on Facebook anymore, but she’s still occasionally active on Twitter and Instagram.

Welp, she seems pretty happy just doing her thing out in Australia, staying out of the limelight, so bad news for anyone who was hoping for some sort of high profile, big budget LonelyGirl15 movie.
