You gotta love photo technology and its mix with dumb criminals. Maxwell Marion Morton, 16, is in jail this week after having confessed to murdering a classmate. It was easy to track Morton’s involvement with the shooting homicide because Morton took a picture of himself with the body of 16-year-old Ryan Mangen and sent it via Snapchat it to pals — one of whom showed it to his mom, who then showed it to the police. No, we don’t have the picture, stop asking.
According to the Tribune Review: “(Police) received a copy of the photo which depicted the victim sitting in the chair with a gunshot wound to the face,” a police affidavit states. “It also depicts a black male taking the ‘selfie,’ with his face facing the camera and the victim behind the actor. The photo had the name ‘Maxwell’ across the top.”
Morton also allegedly sent text messages that read, “Told you I cleaned up the shells,” and “Ryan was not the last one.”
Morton allegedly confessed after police searched his home and found a handgun that was consistent with the type allegedly used in the murder.
Mangen’s body was found by his mother in their Jeannette, PA home; so far there has been no motive disclosed for the killing.
Sounds like it’s a good thing there is a “save” option on Snapchat after all.
