Cake Boss Duff Goldman Joins YouTube With Collective Digital Studio

Ace of Cakes star Duff Goldman is coming to YouTube with an assist from Collective Digital Studio. The celebrity baker and Food Network star is developing his own YouTube channel and he’s signed with CDS to help him do it. Goldman is already starring on two shows on the Food Network, Duff Till Dawn and Kids Baking Championship, but he knows that YouTube is a different proposition altogether. “We’re not making television… that’s the biggest mistake people make.” Goldman told Variety in a statement.

YouTube could dedicate its own elephant graveyard to all the mainstream stars that have come to the site only to fail. You don’t have to look very hard to find the remains of channels belonging to superstars like Madonna and Shaquille O’Neal. Dozens of high wattage stars have jumped into the YouTube arena without really understanding the rules of the game, only to be met with total indifference from fans and a terminal lack of subscribers.

Goldman seems poised to avoid that fate. He has big plans to engage directly with the YouTube creator community, and teaming up with CDS should make for an easy transition from television to the web. The plan for his new channel calls for three different weekly shows. The centerpiece will be a series in which Goldman puts his signature cake making skills to work making custom theme cakes for YouTube stars. It’s a smart and delicious way to reach out to fellow creators and their fans.

Food is huge on YouTube and on television these days, and the potential for creating crossover stars is huge. YouTube fans accustomed to watching the likes of Rosanna Pansino and Hannah Hart will probably feel right at home in Duff’s kitchen, and his television fans will likely be thrilled to follow a less filtered version of his antics online.
