Here on NMR’s Weekend Edition, we’re always looking for the weird stuff on the web — and on Saturdays, we like to focus on one of the best sites for weird content: Reddit.

Reddit is sort of a catchall of the web — all the world’s information, disinformation and cat pictures filter through there and users of the free site upvote or downvote the information based on how interesting they find it. This usually winds up in some pretty strange stuff being upvoted to the front page. But to get REALLY WEIRD you have to crawl down into one of the thousands of subreddits out there.

(Caution: Some of the stuff found within might be VERY NSFW depending on the subreddit we explore. If it’s an entirely NSFW or nasty subreddit, we will warn you below.)

Today’s Reddit Mystery Spot:

Headlines are frequently the most interesting part of a news story — basically most stories just chip away at the awesomeness that is the headline. The Onion both made things exhilarating and confusing by bringing us awesome headlines but also muddying the soup. Suddenly we didn’t know what was a real awesome headline and what was a fake one. Fortunately for us, Reddit created r/NottheOnion, a subreddit that brings us the wackiest and best REAL news. Suddenly we have delightful and bizarre headlines that are definitely not fake (but are still frequently misleading!). For all the best in strange reality, subscribe to this subreddit ASAP.

r/NottheOnion information:

Totally riddled with NSFW: No more than your average news website normally is.
Violent, morbid or outright evil: People are evil, these headlines aren’t.
Okay for kids: Show me a kid who cares about the news and I’ll show ’em this relatively tame website.
Started: 2009
Number of members: 2,570,200 Readers
Is it active: Way too active — there’s evidently a lot of strange shit happening in this world.
Friendliness of community: Satisfied people apparently don’t seem to feel the need to be mean, it’s quite refreshing.
Funniness of comments: Usually it’s more people offering up an expression of disbelief.

Subreddit’s best feature:

The regularity with which this subreddit is updated is something special. It’s one of the busiest pages on Reddit and as such, there’s always something new to check out. Also, it’s a great non-negative source for weird news.
