Cinesaurus, a Washington State-based think tank for terrific comedy, sketches and social commentary, is trending upwards sharply. Their latest piece, a riff on the super popular hit “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, is both comedy and social commentary tied neatly into a music video. Spinning in an Elon Musk component, Cinesaurus’ “SpaceX Launch You Up” details the history and present of the SpaceX program, a privately funded enterprise intent on getting normal joes like you and me into space. It’s pretty catchy and terrific. It’s also on a Weird Al level in terms of lyrical rejiggering, so pay attention.
“After nearly landing their Falcon 9 rocket on a drone barge in the middle of the ocean yesterday, SpaceX is getting closer to making another giant leap in revolutionizing space technology. We were so inspired to see history being made that we created this music video about SpaceX!” said the Cinesaurus crew.
Cinesaurus is also known for their enormously popular Gritty Reboots videos that shapes pop culture staples into inky black eerie movie trailers. Apparently they have a knack for music as well.
