Netflix never really cancels anything, but it’s still a thrill to learn that a favorite series is coming back to the streaming platform. That’s why we’re all smiles to learn that last year’s sleeper animated hit Bojack Horseman is returning for a second season this July.
The series stars Will Arnett as the voice of Bojack, a washed up sitcom star who also happens to be an anthropomorphic horse. Bojack and his friends, voiced by a rogues gallery of buzzy TV stars including Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) Allison Brie (Mad Men and Community) Paul F. Tompkins (Mr. Show) and Amy Sedaris (EVERYTHING), tackle Hollywood clichés in a way that is both outlandish and oddly touching.
For a show that features a cast of humanoid animals, Bojack manages to find the emotional heart of its slightly absurd characters at just the right moment, a trait that won over fans and critics last season.
The show will return to Netflix with a 12 episode second season on Friday July 17th. In the meantime, fans can catchup on season one which is currently streaming on the site, and check out our interview with series co-star Paul F. Tompkins to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes of Bojack Horseman.
