The digital content Newfronts are in full swing here in New York, and that means that lots of big announcements from some of the biggest players in online video. The primary goal of the Newfronts is to give video companies a chance to dazzle advertisers with their freshest content so that those advertisers will shower them with sweet, sweet ad dollars. For fans of content, the Newfronts are a chance to get a sneak peek at the big new projects that our favorite MCNs and other content producers have in the pipeline. Monday was Fullscreen’s turn to show off their wares and we managed to get a front row seat.
2014 was a busy year for Fullscreen, one of the biggest talent networks in online video. The network was acquired outright by Otter Media, gaining a major infusion of cash from parent companies AT&T and The Chernin group in the process. They put some of the cash to work acquiring Austin-based digital studio Rooster Teeth and adding Grace Helbig to a network of talent that already includes YouTube stars like The Fine Brothers, Devin Supertramp, and Jack and Jack.
Fullscreen kicked off their 2015 Newfront with yet another acquisition. This time the MCN set its sights on McBeard, an expansive agency specializing in social media content creation across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, and Twitter. The deal was allegedly finalized, appropriately enough, via Snapchat.
The firm has previously worked with major brands like Coca-Cola, 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures, NBCUniversal, Warner Bros., Mattel, and Netflix. Now their services will be available in house to Fullscreen’s network of creators. Fullscreen also took a victory lap on their latest high profile signing: prominent fashion vlogger Eva Gutowski, better known as MyLiveAsEva, will also bring her 2.4 million subscribers to Fullscreen.
Other than acquisition, it looks like business as usual for the massive MCN. Fullscreen teased a handful of projects we’ve already heard of including the long-awaited Our Second Life Documentary, #O2LForever, as well as Rooster Teeth’s first feature film Lazer Team, Nash Grier vehicle The Outfield, and Electra Woman and Dyna-Girl, the superhero original series starring Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart announced last month.
