It’s got to be tough to work in social media during a tragedy like the passing of a loved one, because people sort of look to that medium for updates. Everyone looked for something touching from Vine when Ryan McHenry passed and now eyes are turned towards Facebook for Sheryl Sandberg, the COO whose husband recently passed. Social media has created a publicly-involved culture, which apparently includes grieving.
Sandberg, whose husband Dave Goldberg passed away from a freak accident on a Mexican treadmill while on vacation, posted a moving tribute to her husband of 11 years on her personal account.
The message is as follows:
Dave, who was CEO of SurveyMonkey, was the benefactor of kind words from everyone who knew him in Silicon Valley, as well as President Barack Obama, who posted on the White House Facebook page: “His skills as an entrepreneur created opportunity for many; his love for his family was a joy to behold, and his example as a husband and father was something we could all learn from.”
Sandberg was the author of the women-in-the-workplace book Lean In.
Of course NMR adds its own condolences for Dave, Sheryl and their family during this time.
