We’ve been hearing rumblings about virtual reality for years now, but it’s finally starting to feel like the technology has caught up with the hype. Last week the world was waiting on pins and needles to see what Oculus VR, the company behind the Oculus Rift headset, would reveal at their E3 conference. Oculus is widely viewed as the industry leader when it comes to high quality, consumer ready, virtual reality technology. As we expected Oculus did reveal the latest version of the Rift, a slick new headset that they promised will clock in at under $1500.
The headset looks much like what fans were expecting based on leaked promotional images that appeared on the internet several months ago. Those images were later, reluctantly, verified as authentic by Oculus who promised that there would still be some refinements before the final product hit shelves. Perhaps more exciting, tech enthusiasts got their first look at the Oculus Rift’s native controller system, a pair of sleek hand devices known as the Oculus Touch. The product is still on target to hit stores early next year. Check out the video above for a closer look at what Oculus has in store.
