Okay, I’m making this official: I alone am responsible for the return of Wet Hot American Summer.
Back in 2012, I was interviewing Wet Hot American Summer alum Ken Marino, who played Counselor Victor Kulak in the movie and now on the forthcoming Netflix show, and I said to him, I said: “Ken, when are we going to see a sequel to Wet Hot American Summer?” And he laughed and said, “Yeah, it comes out next week.” Deflective sarcasm. But it got the ball rolling.
Okay, I’m sure everyone and their mother’s mother’s mother pestered this crew about a WHAS sequel, so it’s no surprise that there is a new vehicle for showcasing the exploits of Camp Firewood. Featuring a cast of LEGEND, the movie stars Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks and a whole mess of other names germane to your youth. Also, Jason Schwartzman is now involved, YIPPEE!
Coming back for an eight-episode run on Netflix, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp will either ignite our flame for movies getting TV show sequels (because Terminator didn’t) or it will leave us crazy gluing our lips to the back of a brand new Ford Focus.
Yeah, I’m saying that if this series, which debuts July 31 on Netflix, dropping all eight episodes at once, isn’t any good, we will give serious consideration to being dragged to death as we choke on poisonous carbon monoxide. Grim stuff.
