What the hell is a marmot, you ask? They’re kind of like an overgrown squirrel or beaver, so cute and cuddly-looking, but not actually cute and cuddly (thanks for that, Disney). As Brian Willett, uploader of this video attests via his Reddit account, “Dude was acting sketchy and rodents in this part of the country carry the fucking PLAGUE. I was kind to him.” Indeed.
However, using foul-language to chase a marmot out of a house you are inspecting for purchase is apparently a brilliant way to make yourself — or at least a marmot — a viral sensation. While the footage, tragically filmed in portrait mode, isn’t quite on the level of Randall’s assessment of the honey badger, Willett’s line “Dude, get outta my house,” should travel the frat circuit for a few months, likely showing up as a bon mot to drop during a particularly heady game of beer pong.
The question is, can the marmot eclipse the honey badger as the official wild animal of the internet (all apologies to bear with chainsaws for arms)? With over 500,000 views in just a few days, it’s well on its way.
