Man Arrested For Messing With Traffic Cameras, Posting Video To YouTube

Stephen Ruth, a 42-year-old man from Ronkonkoma, NY (Jeter! Do it for Ronkonkoma!), decided the best thing he could do was make a video of himself messing with traffic cameras and then post it to YouTube. YouTube’s a big place, but it’s not exactly anonymous — especially when you post the video to a channel named after you. His sole video posting, Ruth wears a tie to disrupt the system and “take the power back” as he says.

Utilizing a painter’s extension pole and “a set of balls,” Ruth pushes the viewer on the camera upward so it records clouds instead of traffic.

Tips about the video went in to the police almost immediately after the video, which posted yesterday, went up. Ruth was quickly arrested at his home and charged with four counts of criminal tampering and obstruction governmental administration.

Eager to make his stand on social media, he also took to Facebook to claim of the incident, that he knew he’d be arrested.

Uh, mission accomplished, I guess.

Share this to continue the fight to take back the power.
