Black Actor Idris Elba ‘Too Street’ to Be James Bond, 007 Author Says — Apologizes

Throughout the interwebs, people have had discussions on who ought to be the next James Bond. Idris Elba has been a popular choice, and it’s no surprise. But get this. According to Anthony Horrowitz, Elba is “too street” to be the next James Bond.

Chosen by Ian Fleming’s family to pen new stories of 007 for print, after the original creator of the book series-turned-smash-film-series passed away Horrowitz is an English novelist who is known for novels like “Mindgame” (2001), and two Sherlock Holmes novels “The House of Silk” (2011) and “Moriarty” (2014). Horrowitz is also the most recent author chosen by the Ian Fleming estate to write the next James Bond novel, titled “Trigger Mortis.”

In an interview with the Daily Mail’s Even Magazine, Horrowitz pandered about how Elba could be the first black actor to be the 007 agent.

“Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better,” Horowitz tells the magazine. “For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”

I honestly don’t see how Elba could be “too street” for a role like this. He’s well known for playing the role of a drug boss in “The Wire”, Nelson Mandela in “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom”, Stacker Pentecost in “Pacific Rim”, Luther in…well, “Luther” and Heimdall in the Thor Movies. He can play just about anything! Sure, he’s played roles where he’s had to be a rough character, but he can totally pull off headshots and save the damsel in distress. There’s even an article about him breaking some speed record in a Bentley! He was also the FIRST MAN to be featured on the cover of Maxim! THAT JUST YELLS SEXY, DAMNIT!

Everyone pretty much backed him up on Twitter, ask how he isn’t smooth or how he is a attractive:

Finally, the author came out and apologized to fans:

According to Elba himself, the rumors of him becoming the next Bond came from Bond himself: Daniel Craig.

“Daniel Craig actually set the rumor off. About four years ago he said Idris Elba would be a great Bond and then it started to creep,” he chuckled. “I blame Daniel.”

What’s even greater about this is that during a Reddit AMA, he answered a fan’s question as to whether or not he would take on the role by saying, “Yes, if it was offered to me, absolutely.”
