It’s time for Harley Quinn and Deadshot.
Yesterday it was the Joker and Enchantress. Today, director David Ayer tweeted out the Empire Magazine Suicide Squad cover photos for Deadshot (Will Smith) and – perhaps due to OVERWHELMING demand yesterday – Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie).

We have to say, the design for Deadshot looks spot-on, with heavy inspiration from the comics and a nice blend of grittiness and comic-bookiness that the visual design for all of Suicide Squad seems to be following. It’s sort of hard to see given the angle it’s being held, but he’s holding the same M16-looking assault rifle he was in the earlier released photo, the one that also showed Deadshot with his trademark full face mask.
What we do get with the cover photo, though, is a better look at the stitched words by his neck, his eyepiece, and his wrist guns. Around the neck, we can see both “The light” and “the way,” which are parts of a misquote from John 14:6 in the Bible: “I am the way, the truth and the life.” It’s unclear if this is merely meant to be ironic or if Deadshot – whom Smith has played incredibly straight-faced in every photo released so far – will have some sense of dread or religious somberness about his chosen vocation.
As for reaction to Harley? Well, this tweet pretty much sums up the popular opinion:

With “Daddy’s Lil Monster” on her shirt, “Good Night” printed on her baseball bat, and a mean-looking bedazzled revolver in hand, this is exactly the Harley fans want: Funny, slapstick, and deadly. Although there’s still no evidence of the original Harley Quinn bodysuit, this photo shows Suicide Squad‘s take on the character makes her no less colorful but, much like Deadshot and the others, blends real-world design with comic book accents.
Here’s hoping Ayer gives us two more tomorrow!
