A Thor Hammer prank that actually allows ONE person to be truly worthy!
The premise is simple: No one can lift Thor’s hammer unless they’re worthy to carry it. Basically, to anyone but Thor, the hammer is too heavy to budge. There was an entire scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron built off this joke.
And we’ve seen some pretty good real-life Thor’s hammer pranks. For example, this one, where someone crazy glued a replica of Thor’s hammer to the sidewalk. We’re guessing public works isn’t too happy with him, but it is pretty funny.
But here’s the problem: it’s glued down. No one can pick it up. If you really want to have some fun with passers-by, you need a prank hammer that you can lift, but no one else can.
That’s what the guys at Sufficiently Advanced did, filling a replica Mjolnir with an electromagnet made of repurposed microwave over parts (and a few other materials) all hooked up to a fingerprint sensor. It’s pretty awesome, and perfectly fooled a bunch of people out in Venice, California.
But ok, let’s leave reality behind for a minute and go back to comic book land. Thor’s actually not the only person worthy of his hammer. In Avengers: Age of Ultron vision lifted it, but he’s not the only one. Here’s one of our favorite looks at some others who have lifted the mighty god’s weapon.
Figuring out who can lift Mjolnir actually could play into some of the upcoming Marvel movies. In the Age of Ultron scene above, we saw that Captain America could at least budge the hammer, and as you saw above, he’s used it before in the comics. If Thor falls in Infinity War, who better to take up his hammer? When Thanos gets to town, Cap’s going to need more than just a shield.
But even more interesting is Thor: Ragnarok. Now that it looks like the Hulk is going to play a major role in the film, there’s a lot of cool things the movie could do with the Hulk using Mjolnir in space, or the Hulk and Thor wielding Mjolnir together. This actually happens a few times in the comics, that the Hulk is able to swing Mjolnir while Thor is still holding the hammer. These are basically the two most powerful Avengers, after all. If Thor: Ragnarok is about the end of the world for Asgard, who else would you want defending it?
