Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer ANALYSIS – All the Easter Eggs [VIDEO]

Finn

One of the most thematically significant exchanges comes in the first half of the trailer’s handoff from introducing Finn to introducing Kylo Ren. Listen carefully to what they say in the clip above.

That looks like the tail of a proton torpedo - which means Finn (whom we presume is the TIE fighter's pilot) got pretty darn lucky he didn't get blown up.

“I have nothing to fight for,” says Finn. He has no sense of purpose, and that’s immediately juxtaposed with Kylo Ren’s ironclad conviction, “Nothing will stand in our way.” Although I expect Finn to find at least a little bit of purpose before his showdown with Kylo Ren, this difference in character motivation seems eminently significant. Finn seems more disillusioned soldier than active defector, and I’m curious to see how this plays once he joins up with the Republic military.

Aside from the lightsaber fight with Kylo Ren (which we already covered) the only other really significant shot of Finn gives us our only glimpse at what’s probably Maz Kanata’s pirate castle:

It’s hard to tell for sure, but it doesn’t look like Finn has the lightsaber yet. There’s always been a good chance that Maz would be part of those two pieces – the lightsaber and its new owner – coming together, and old smuggler Han leading Finn, Rey, and BB-8 in is a good hint that they’re at a place built for pirates and scoundrels.
