Zoolander 2 (or is it really 2oolander?) takes on androgyny. And Justin Bieber.
Ok, let’s get this out of the way: Yes, the new trailer for Zoolander 2 is hilarious. But what’s most amazing about it? It makes huge stars like Benedict Cumberbatch and Kristen Wiig almost unrecognizable. Which is really, really hard to do.
I mean, think about this: In The Fifth Estate, Cumberbatch went from his usual short, slightly curly dark hair to long, straight, platinum blonde hair to play Julian Assange, and you still always knew it was him.

No question about it, that’s Benedict Cumberbatch.
But in Zoolander 2?

I’m still not convinced that’s actually Benedict Cumberbatch.
Woah.
We’re not really sure how big Cumberbatch’s role will be, but he’s playing androgynous model All. Predictably, that’s pretty confusing to Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson).
But Cumberbatch isn’t the only one hidden behind Hunger Games-esque makeup and accessorizing.

“What did you go as for Halloween this year?”
“The Purple People Eater.”
Believe it or not, that’s Kristen Wiig. She’s playing a character called Alexanya Atoz, a fashion icon of some kind who, if the rumors are to be believed, is in cahoots with Mugatu.
That’s right, Mugatu!
Our favorite Will Ferrell villain of all time is back. And he got jacked in prison!
Ok, so that actually just turns out to be a great bodysuit, but who cares? It’s hilarious, and Mugatu is returning, and he wants to know where his “god damned latte” is.
Of course, a long-awaited sequel like this one wouldn’t be complete without some celebrity cameos, and the trailer gives us one while hinting at others with a great little action sequence starring Justin Bieber.
Apparently training people who are really, really good looking as assassins and super-spies didn’t end with Mugatu’s scheme to assassinate the prime minister of Malaysia. In fact, we’re betting the CIA and/or INTERPOL (Penelope Cruz shows up as an INTERPOL agent) decided that it worked so well for Mugatu, they wanted to get into the game.
By the looks of it, Bieber won’t be the only celeb to show up; they’ll probably be short, but we can expect sequences starring Demi Lovato, Usher, Lenny Kravitz, and Miley Cyrus as well.
Releasing Zoolander 2 a full 15 years after the original might have seemed crazy when it was first announced, but this trailer has us pretty excited for the return of high fashion to the big screen. Zoolander 2 (or is it actually 2oolander? I feel like we need to nail this down early) hits theaters February 12, 2016.
